Travel should be fun but it isn?t always because in the excitement we forget many basic rules we live by in normal life; so it is time to remember some of these. This often means that the memories of the holiday are tainted as sometimes the local people are blamed for something which could have been prevented. Other circumstances could mean that you will have to take time out from your vacation to have the Police deal with your complaints. Always use common sense if you want to travel safely, whether shopping in a local village or spending time on the beach, do not put yourself in a position where you could either be in danger or taken advantage of.

Nature gave us all a very effective means for survival in unknown circumstances; it?s called instinct and you must learn to trust it. Always be careful about traveling with all your documents and money if you are just going to town to see the sights or have a meal. Consider just what you require for your trip out and take that, placing everything else that is of importance in your room or hotel safe. One suggestion that can help reduce the risk of losing everything is placing cash and credit cards in different locations like pockets, wallets and bags; a pickpocket who is trying to steal from you will only get a small amount, leaving you with means to get back to the hotel.

Many couples who have not adopted the travel safely ethos will have 2 credit cards, both accessing the same account; it is much easier to use two cards, each accessing separate accounts so if one is lost or stolen, there is a backup. Some people just make it easy for snatch thieves who specialize in grabbing bags and cameras from unsuspecting tourists who have them hanging from their shoulder; to prevent this make sure the strap is over the head as well. Try to be aware of where you are when you stroll around and don?t make an easy target for the snatch thieves on the back of bikes. The reason most people fall for these tricks is because we are more relaxed on vacation and the people that carry out these crimes are very good at it.

The problem is we all think we?re smarter than the scammers, robbers and pick pockets but the sad reality is that these people do it for a living and it?s how many of them feed themselves and their families. One way to help reduce the chances of things being stolen is by using a back pack with a padlock, this makes it more difficult to get into and therefore acts as a deterrent. A good way to prevent your keys from being stolen or more likely lost, is to buy a small shackle that climbers use and while you cannot lock these it is possible to secure them to belts for example. If you are a man that keeps his wallet in his back pocket, change this to your front pocket; likewise women should close their handbag because all this has a deterrent factor. There is absolutely no reason why when you are on vacation you shouldn?t be able to travel safely and have a great deal of worry free fun; just stick to the points mentioned here and use your common sense at all times.

Seven days in New York might be just enough time to capture just a little of taste of what this busy non-stop city is all about. Most people will agree that a trip here would not be complete without seeing the world famous empire State Building especially from the top. Superior views are available from another famous landmark, the Rockefeller Centre when the weather is good. The Statue of Liberty is best seen from a tour boat although these can be extremely busy and since 9/11, the delays can be long so it is best to go ashore at Ellis Island; which is the former immigration center but is also fascinating.

The Staten Island ferry can still be traveled on without cost and can offer excellent photo opportunities of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty; there are always a good number of professional standard street performers to watch. Without going to the site of where the World Trade Center Towers used to be no seven day visit to New York would feel right. There is certainly a strange atmosphere to the whole, very large area that the The reason many people travel all the way to New York, even for a weekend, is for the stores and you can pop along to Tiffany's or look for bargains around Broadway and Lower East Side.

If you're up for more discount shopping then you need to get to Maceys and have your tourist discount card handy as it can save you eleven percent after which a trip to Bloomingdales would be in order. An excellent tourist location is the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum which is likely to be closed until the end of 2008; if you're going to be there next year it will be a worthwhile place to see. There is a great deal there with the focus on the USS Intrepid, a Second World War aircraft carrier but Concorde is also there and many other interesting vessels, including a submarine. The New York City Police Museum is worth an hour if you're down that way; it's free to enter but a five dollar donation is recommended to help with its upkeep; especially for those people in love with the crime side of New York City!

For those who like to see the darker side of a city the Lower East Side Tenement Museum is ideal as it shows the conditions for many immigrants back in 1864. If Central Park is on your list of places to see then there is another museum aptly named the City of New York Museum which has exhibitions exploring the city's past, its present and the future. Once again, admission to this wonderfully grand building is free but a donation of at least nine dollars is expected. There is so much to see that it will be difficult fitting everything in on a seven day trip to New York and you will have to return some other time!

Of all the places in the world, it is the Caribbean that is the centre for vacations specializing in all inclusive packages. These islands are the capital of the world for all inclusive Caribbean vacations, so much so that they outsell any other type of vacation available. Some believe it is in order to attract more visitors the islands of the Caribbean; but there is no evidence however, that their popularity has grown specifically because of this move.

The most plausible explanation is the fact that for many people who want to travel to these islands, all inclusive Caribbean vacations packages are very good value for money; which is especially good news for families. Vacations in the Caribbean can be designed completely to the needs of the individual and are therefore very attractive to many visitors. Some visitors only require flights to the Caribbean as they are visiting relations; there is generally no need for anything other than a flight to be arranged.

Most people will find however, the option that will be more affordable will be an all inclusive Caribbean vacation. Of course owing to the number of bookings made, it is usually less expensive to book through a tour operator than it is to arrange the vacation independently. Of course travelers who like to arrange everything them self, would not consider such an option even if the vacation were 'to die for'. It is surprising, even now, just how many people that book an all inclusive vacation aren?t aware of what they are actually going to get for their money.

No matter what type of vacation you are arranging, one thing remains constant and that is the room will be included in the package. Although food is included in this type of vacation, it is not necessarily in others; some deals only include a breakfast each day. Many people can get confused between a full board package and an all inclusive package vacation.

There is actually quite a big difference when you consider an all inclusive Caribbean vacation that supplies all food and drink but a full board arrangement only includes three meals each day. Many hotels will also supply their guests with discount vouchers for events, entertainment and meals for example; normally there will be an additional (usually lower) cost attached nevertheless. Many all inclusive Caribbean vacations will include other recreational activities; often included are restaurants outside of the hotel complex which means you can make more of your vacation without dipping into your pocket constantly.

If you are someone who travels a great deal then perhaps it is time you considered budget car rental; getting around by taxi is ok, providing you don't mind waiting or the expensive fares! But with today's competitive market, I wouldn't be surprised that when trying to rent a car you can end up renting a car that sounds like lawnmower instead. Ok, so I may be exaggerating a little but it is something you have to look out for because the last thing you want is to have a car that is not going to be of any use. That said; here are a few ideas you can use when organizing your rental car.

One way that can help is to use a web site for budget car rental that allows you to set your own upper spending limit. These firms will try to get the best deal for your rental car and might just toss in unlimited mileage and upgrades, all of that without spending an extra dime. If you are lucky and decide to book a fly-drive deal for instance, then you may find the rental company has upgraded your vehicle but this is less likely if you book with the airline themselves. Of course the airlines realize they have a captive audience when people visit their site to book a flight and do not need to discount their car rental.

There are bargains to be found on the internet and that also means budget car rental as well. In fact many car rental web sites will only give a discount if you book online with them. Shopping around on the internet can be fun and save you money as there is almost always a special offer available with one car Rental Company or another. The biggest benefit to all this is it can take only a few minutes to do this if you are using the internet.

Another thing to ask is whether your credit card company has negotiated special discounts with the budget car rental company you are going to use. The frequent flyer program is still available or perhaps you are a member of an organization that has preferential rates arranged. Most rental cars are low on maintenance so when you rent a car, check all sides for damage. I mean every side and every nook and cranny of that car, make sure to inform the renter of these so that you wont have to pay for damages once you return the car. In addition to a physical check for collision damage, make sure everything works as it should or you might find yourself paying for something that wasn't your fault.

More often than not your existing vehicle policy will cover the rental car insurance needed but it is always best to check first. Saving money is the game so why pay for rental car insurance you don't need when renting your car; whatever the situation, insurance is always required when you rent a car. If like me you like to have you car upgraded, then try arriving at the rental car company's offices as they open and you may find that owing to the number of cars that have not been returned at that time, you may be offered an upgrade at no charge.

A favorite destination for many people is Orlando, Florida, with its many theme parks, it has become 'the' place to visit but there is much more to an Orlando vacation than this. A visitor will never be left feeling bored in Orlando with a huge range of cultural places to visit, shopping malls and 'non-theme park' attractions. Whilst a vacation here has been popular for many years now, the reason to visit continues to grow as the number of facilities and attractions increases.

It is a great place to visit even if you only have shopping on your mind as Orlando area is full of beautiful shopping malls, restaurants and shops of every type. This article highlights some of the other visitor attractions that you could see on an Orlando vacation which are not as well publicized as the theme parks but are equal in their ability to please. The Central Florida Zoo for instance only opened back in 1975 and was owned by the Sanford Fire Department prior to that but is now the home to over four hundred animals. It is actually a privately owned charitable group dedicated to the protection of exotic animals plus species that are native to Florida but also offers informative and child-friendly classes and events.

You may have heard of the name Tiffany's but did you know that it was way back in 1942 that the Morse Museum in Winter Park that started displaying the collections of Louis Tiffany. For aficionados of Tiffany art, this is the place to visit with the largest display anywhere in the world, including jewelry, paintings, glass, pottery and ornaments. Whilst it may seem that Orlando has been created for the entertainment of children that could not be further from the truth as there is plenty here for everyone. For tourists that like to burn the candle at both ends there is a range of nightly entertainment on an Orlando vacation from themed family evenings like Pirates Adventure to clubs, bars and restaurants.

The Orlando Science Center is another of the major attractions and its four-story center is the biggest of its kind in the Southeast; offering 10 exhibit halls that allow visitors everything from the Florida swamplands to the dry plains of Mars. An alternative to this would be the International Trolley and Train Museum which can be found along International Drive and has one of the country's largest operating indoor G gauge layouts in a space of over four thousand square feet. The Titanic ? Ship of Dreams Exhibition can also be found along International Drive; this is a moving, often eerie depiction of the great Ocean Liner with a tour guide depicting a character from the ship with many original items on display.

Away from all the hustle is the wonderful Lake Eola Park in the heart of downtown; it has beautiful sidewalks in over forty acres where it is possible to spend a few peaceful hours. Of course how could anyone possibly visit Orlando without a visit to at least one theme park; and for those of you who are unsure Disney has four; not including the water parks; Universal has its own versions including Seaworld. If you are on you first Orlando vacation, try to visit all the major attractions first because it is almost certain you will return again another year.

Paris is an old city full of intrigue with a long history; the river it straddles, the Seine, also has two islands, situated in the oldest part of the city. Unfortunately a Paris short stay can only ever be considered a taster; you can never become bored in this beautiful city.

A city famous for its fabulous architecture, good food, wine, street markets and galleries; it is the home of the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and many other famous tourist attractions. Visitors to Paris as well as its citizens can travel around Paris easily; there is a superb underground rail system called the Metro which is efficient and easy to understand.

You can't miss the Eiffel Tower, mainly because it's over three hundred meters high; it provides stunning views from the top and is visible throughout most of the city. At night, it comes alive with lights that have to be seen to be believed; taking a tour at the same time will teach you much more about this remarkable structure.

On your Paris trip ensure you add the famous Champs Elysees to your list of places to visit; it will present you with many famous designer shops and good restaurants. This is an 'up-market' area that attracts thousands of tourists each day; it is also where most of the five star hotels are situated but thankfully hotels tend to be cheaper once you move away from the city center.

This city is also the home to the renowned Louvre Museum; with almost a third of a million exhibits, you will not be able to see everything in one trip. Even on a short stay in Paris, this is a an art lovers paradise; some of the most important art collections in the world are here including Leonardo da Vinci's world famous Mona Lisa. Many well known artists spent years of their lives in Paris; the likes of Monet, Picasso and many others lived in the city for years and some of their work can still be seen today.

Of course, Napoleon commissioned the construction of the Arc de Triomphe, another Paris landmark; to honor his generals (and his troops) he had their names inscribed upon it. It also features an observatory to take in surrounding views; it is located in Place Charles de Gaulle where twelve of the city's main avenues start, including Avenue de Champs Elysees.

Of course this article can only give a small sample places to visit; these are however, the most popular with regular tours arranged, many of which are either free or at a subsidized cost. Most people find their Paris short stay vacations exciting but only see a glimpse of what's on offer; that would require a longer visit as you probably won't have time to visit the gothic churches and castles in only a few days.

Each Caribbean cruise will visit a certain number of islands on that particular voyage so you must decide if you want to visit certain islands like Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahamas or Antigua for example. There was a time when you would probably have to queue to see your tour operator to book a vacation but the internet has seen the number of travel agents visited dwindle, as more booking takes place online. This gradual turn to travel websites has come about because more discounts can be found and you can book the vacation at any time of the day. I have used travel agents since my senior year trip and no matter how many websites offer unbeatable deals; I will remain loyal to them although have taken a liking to doing my own research. All you need to do is visit sites related to the location you're visiting and collect as much local information as you want plus I have an idea of the cost before I even visit my travel agent.

This is a much more certain way of finding out how much it will all cost before I embarrass myself and choose a vacation I cannot afford. But don't forget, they should also be there to help you with questions that cannot be readily answered online. For instance, when international travel is concerned, they should be able to help you with local laws to the country you are traveling too that could relate to your stay. Some countries actually charge a fee to enter and also have restrictions about what you can take in and take out which aren't usually publicized very well and easy to miss.

These people are there to make your life easier and ensure that your vacation needs are completely taken care of, something the internet cannot do. As much as people like and trust the internet to make everything perfect, there is something more comforting about talking to an actual person. Websites are not very good at dealing with problems and there is nothing as reassuring as actually giving your complaint to a real person like a travel agent to correct. The benefits of seeing a person was highlighted when my husband and I wanted to get married and fortunately we found a travel agent that was on exactly the right wavelength as us.

She was very sweet plus incredibly helpful and by the time I ended the 30 minute conversation with her, she had renewed my faith in them; she had given me many choices of where we could go that we'd have wonderful weather for the month we were planning to travel. Her help included things I hadn't even asked her and she managed to provide us with an accurate costing which was a very important issue. Because of her help, we booked the vacation immediately and she organized a wedding coordinator to help make those arrangements. Travel agents work hard to get the holiday right but at least they are there to help if there are problems too.

Once only the province of the wealthy and famous, international travel is now far more prevalent as technology has reduced costs and made it possible for the number of people to travel the world to increase dramatically. Providing you are willing to travel outside of the busy periods there aren't may places that out beyond most people's budgets. Even though many of the locations are cheapest in the winter, there are many places in Europe that have mild climates like Spain and Italy for example. Think outside the box when booking accommodations so whether your trip is for a week or a month; look online for private housing or villas to rent on a daily or weekly basis.

Of course you can expect all the normal creature comforts when you rent the properties. The benefits of a fully equipped kitchen mean that you can try some of the local ingredients in the meals you prepare which will also save some money if you prepare your own breakfast everyday. Laundry facilities also save time and money and sending email postcards to friends and family with just a click of your mouse will save more time and money letting you make the most of your vacation. It's the little things you notice when you visit any foreign country and while most peoples daily lives are not much different to our own it is the small customs and idiosyncrasies are what make each country unique.

Unfortunately Americans have fallen into the habit of often eating on the move or just rushing and don't make it the family affair that they do in many European countries which it must be said is a more pleasurable experience. It is also pleasant to walk and tour the area in which you are to get a real feel of the country you are in and not that portrayed mainly at the tourist areas. A true international traveler will want to experience the local food and traditional dishes like French Pistou and Spanish Paella instead of the plastic versions you can get elsewhere. The international traveler is adventurous and not afraid to travel and explore cities without a guide so when visiting Paris for instance, it is only a matter of boarding the underground which is efficient and also inexpensive.

However, if this is how you like to travel then restricting how much you carry with you is paramount and being able to fit everything you need into hand luggage can save a great deal of time at the airport. With today's many restrictions on baggage, plan for only carry-on luggage that way you will avoid lost luggage and the dreaded walking and waiting time at the carousel. Careful planning means you can pack everything you need for a month's stay anywhere in a carry-on and it's just as easy to find a foreign equivalent of an American drugstore and pick up any toiletries you may need. This is an exciting way to travel, light and easy and finding a new place to visit is as easy as searching on the internet.
