Car Rental Tips

The next time you are on vacation or business, forget using taxis and use a budget car rental instead; the convenience of having a car whenever you need to travel should not be underestimated. Sometimes though, the companies that rent budget cars, supply cars that are at the bottom end of the spectrum. Do not forget, the idea is to rent a car inexpensively, not one that is destined to be scrapped the minute you return it. So, just to help with your rental car experience, I have made a written down a few pointers to help.

If you're not choosy about what car you rent, try to get your budget car rental through sites that let you choose cars at your own price. Some of these sites are just comparison sites but well worth your time as they have done all the hard work for you. Look for package deals, fly-drive-stay, or fly-drive, most of these packages give great discounts for rentals, but don't do it with an airline. Unfortunately, airlines although convenient aren't really the more economic way to go, their car rental prices are hardly budget, and tend to be higher than those of outside firms.

Budget car rental is now a growing area of online car rental so do not let the low prices put you off. Some websites even go as far as internet only discounts which can save a great deal of money. Do not always take the first offer that comes your way, unless you are limited on time because there are bound to be other discount offers available if you have the time to take a look. Don't forget that the only effort required to find these car rental deals is to logon to the internet, how easy is that.

If you are phoning, ask for discounts that can be applicable to you, remember even when you've scored the best deal, there is still that one last ditch of a possibility that one of your credit cards support the company and provide budget car rental discounts. Many car rental companies have arranged special deals with large organizations to ensure they have more business, perhaps you are a member of one of these. The only problem you may find is that a rental car may not have been looked after with the same care as a more reputable company. There may some damage which you do not want to be liable for. In addition, try to check out all the accessories, wipers, radio, brakes, seat belts etc, to familiarize yourself with them, and also to check if they work, like the previous tip, you might be charged for this if you don't inform them.

Before you decide to use the rental company's insurance plans, take a look at your own policy as you will probably find that it covers rental car insurance as well. Saving money is the game so why pay for rental car insurance you don't need when renting your car; whatever the situation, insurance is always required when you rent a car. One last tip is to try and collect your rental car as soon as the office opens as many of the cars already on rental will not have been returned and there is a good chance you will get a upgrade at no extra cost.
